Seventeen 10uppers Contribute to WordPress 6.3
Earlier this month, WordPress released its 6.3 update, “Lionel”, bringing with it significant advancements to the Block Editor, notable performance improvements, and other core updates such as accessibility and internationalization enhancements. Seventeen 10uppers made contributions to the release, making a total of 290 contributions to improve the world’s most popular CMS.
WordPress 6.3 comes with several advancements to the Block Editor, such as:
- The ability to edit content directly in the site editor.
- Introduction of the Command Palette in the site editor, a shortcut to quickly utilize various WordPress functions.
- The added ability to store revisions within the site editor.
- New added blocks like Details and Footnotes.
- Added presets for spacer blocks to ensure all spacing is uniform.
- The ability to drag and drop to replace images.
- Customizable captions without any coding.
Other core updates in the 6.3 release include accessibility improvements to labeling, tab and arrow-key navigation, and added tools to the admin image editor. Also internationalization improvements such as loading for just-in-time-translation, yielding better performance. 6.3 now also supports oEmbed to link to TikTok profiles easily.
WordPress 6.3 is named “Lionel” after the famous American jazz artist, Lionel Hampton — a celebrated musician and bandleader who was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a National Medal of Arts.
The latest update also comes with performance updates, bringing 27% faster load times for block themes, 18% faster load times for classic themes, and a 19% increase in server-side response.
With 17 people credited, 10up had the 2nd highest number of contributors and the 4th highest number of contributions with 290 total for WordPress 6.3.
