Seven 10up Projects Recognized In 25th Annual Webby Awards
The Webby Awards honors excellence on the Internet. It is the most widely accepted industry award recognizing websites, online video and advertising, apps, Internet games, and podcasts. For its 25th year, a record-breaking 13,500 projects from around the world were entered into the competition.
We were honored to discover that seven projects supported by 10up in 2020 have been recognized by The Webby Awards — including three listing 10up as the creator, and four others listing clients and partners.
Five Webby Nominees
Each Webby category features five final nominees. These nominees compete for two coveted awards: The Webby Award, chosen by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), and The Webby People’s Voice Award, determined by a public vote. Voting is open through Thursday, May 6 at 11:59 pm PST.
News & Politics: FiveThirtyEight
FiveThirtyEight: The Election Forecast is nominated in the News & Politics category, listing our client ABC News. 10up has been providing strategic digital support to FiveThirtyEight for more than six years, encompassing full site builds, monthly support and iteration, third-party integrations, new feature builds, and a recent migration to the WordPress block editor.
Cultural Blog/Website: The Undefeated
The Undefeated is a Webby Nominee in the Cultural Blog/Website category. 10up has been the trusted digital partner for ESPN’s TheUndefeated.com since its inception. Highlights from 2020 include SEO audits, extensive video page enhancements in support of editorial and engagement excellence, and a migration to the WordPress block editor.
Government & Civil Innovation: The White House
The new WhiteHouse.gov is nominated in the Government & Civil Innovation category. When the incoming White House Administration needed a new WhiteHouse.gov, our team was tagged to create a cutting-edge WordPress site editing and management experience built on the WordPress block editor. Working in collaboration with creative agency Wide Eye, our Open Source Practice was able to complete what would otherwise be a 6 month build, in just 6 weeks.
Government & Civil Innovation: The California Grants Portal
The California Grants Portal is also nominated in the Government & Civil Innovation category, which means two projects supported by 10up are competing head to head for a Webby! The California State Library engaged us to build a centralized web portal for all grants administered by California government agencies. We architected the portal, designed and built the user interface and administrative backend, and engineered a method for state agencies to submit their grant data through the portal.
Creative Production: GE Healthcare Edison Design System
In 2020, we were also thrilled to be part of the GE Healthcare Edison Design System team, which is nominated in the Apps and Software: Creative Production category. 10up provided early consulting on the technology stack for the design system, and augmented GE’s implementation team in the build-out of the front-end components.
Two Webby Honorees
Recognition as a Webby Honoree is a distinction granted to less than 20% of all work entered in the 25th Annual Webby Awards and only a few entries in each category.
News & Politics: POLITICO Europe
POLITICO Europe, another long-time 10up client, is a Webby Honoree in the News & Politics category. POLITICO engaged 10up to improve its existing website, provide ongoing technical support, and implement new features. The partnership has grown over time, expanding to include strategic consulting, user experience design, front end engineering, and back end engineering — we launched an entirely new design in 2020.
Government & Civil Innovation: California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Website Redesign is a Webby Honoree in the Government & Civil Innovation category — meaning that 10up played a major role in three out of the eight formal category recognitions. 10up won the competitive bid to completely revamp the California DMV website, and in parallel, create and launch a microsite dedicated to education about and support for REAL ID. Later, when COVID-19 hit California mid-project, we pivoted to collaborate with DMV and its partners to swiftly roll out a Virtual Field Office to facilitate continuity of services.
Our work with the California State Library and the California DMV also won awards in the Center for Digital Government’s 4th Annual Government Experience Awards. The California Grants Portal won a State Government Project Experience Award and the DMV modernization won a COVID-19 Response Special Award for “innovative and effective modernization to enhance services and citizen experience during the pandemic”.
